Latex mattresses are one of the hottest newcomers in the mattress industry. Like many new trends and sensations, it is natural to ask if it is just a passing hype. Fortunately, from the feedback of consumers and experts all around the world, latex sleepers seems like they are here to stay.
Generally, there are several types of latex mattresses. If you don’t have a full foam mattress, you should at least get a latex topper mattress (a mattress with a top latex layer). Here is just a short list of the advantages of latex over other materials used in the industry.
They are ‘Greener’ and Healthier
Many other types of mattress (traditional foam, water, air or coil) are large made from synthetic materials. In the light that most consumers are looking for products that are made from sustainable material, natural latex looks like the way to go. Latex sleepers are made from natural latex that is derived from rubber tree saps (there are also synthetic latex that are less favorable). As far as mattress materials go, latex is one of the most environmentally friendly materials available.
Latex topper mattress made from natural latex is hypoallergenic so they are well suited for consumers who are sensitive to a variety of allergens. They are also known to be less prone to dust mites and other bed creepy crawlies because they just don’t thrive in the material. Since they are made from latex, which is a natural raw material, it gives out much less chemical residues making them a much healthier choice.
Comfort
The latex topper mattress is also known to not heat up easily. They are able to disperse your body heat evenly so it doesn’t sleep hot as easily as other materials. Many consumers also claim that their latex topper mattress (or a full latex mattress) is comfortable among any other type of mattresses they have slept on!Latex is also very buoyant and is able to form to your body shape well, providing better support while you sleep.
Durability
These types of mattresses are also more durable than many other types of mattresses. Cotton, futon and some foam mattress packs down over time, making it feel firmer. The density of latex also helps it last longer than many other materials (notice the weight of latex mattresses).
Word of Caution.
The mattress industry is picking up on the hype of latex mattresses and is beginning to use the word ‘Latex’ freely in many of their products. There are many sleepers out there that are made from synthetic latex, which may not have the same properties as natural latex. When you are out shopping for a latex topper mattress, make sure that you ask for a mattress that is made from 100% natural latex.
